Partial funding brings back Blackstone Valley Visitor Center all week
PAWTUCKET – The momentum that Pawtucket and the Blackstone Valley have right now is too significant to leave them without a properly staffed visitor center, says Bob Billington, president of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council.
Pawtucket Sen. Sandra Cano said this year’s final approved state budget included $75,000 for operation of the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center at 175 Main St., about half of what they were seeking in the bill she put forward.
Even at half, said Billington, that funding was “great news” for operations of the center. He told The Breeze that it will allow them to open back up to seven days a week, though with shortened hours for welcoming people to the city and wider Blackstone Valley region.
With the nearby train station now open, representatives are now reaching out to the Boston area, said Billington.
“People are finding their way to Pawtucket into the Visitor Center, so it’s important that we are there welcoming people and pointing them in the right direction for food, beverage or entertainment in the city,” he said.
